Sweden's best selling car is not a Volvo

For the first year in half a century, Sweden's best-selling car last year was not a Volvo. Although Volvo still had the largest share of the country's overall car market, they have been knocked off the top spot for the best selling car.

SHOCK! The Volvo has been knocked off the top spot for the best selling car. Sweden's carmakers' association has reported that the Volkswagen Golf took the top spot. Despite this, Volvo still had the largest share of the country's overall car market.

The Volkswagen Golf made up a total of 5.9% of new cars bought in Sweden, whereas the Volvo V70, S90 and V90 took 5.7%.

Although it may have been a while ago, this isn't the first time Volvo has been knocked off the top spot in Sweden for the best selling car. The last time was in 1962 by the Volkswagen Beetle.

Despite being knocked off the top spot for the best selling car in Sweden, they have still sold the most cars, and are still viewed as an iconic Swedish brand.

In 2016 Sweden saw 372,000 new car registrations, this is up 8% when compared to 2015, truck sales have also seen success being up over 15%.
